Speech Therapy

ST-1The role of a Speech Language Pathologist is to return, reshape and expand the capabilities of a patient’s ability to communicate. Speech Therapists also assist with patients exhibiting certain eating disorders or difficulties requiring specialized diets. A Licensed Speech Pathologist provides speech, language, cognitive and swallowing diagnostics and therapeutic interventions and services. When referred by a physician the Speech Pathologist evaluates and then develops a rehabilitation plan. The plan defines the type and frequency of therapy required to maximize the resident's recovery. Goals often include:
    • Developing and/or strengthening the resident ability to effectively communicate in his/her environment
    • Improving swallowing efficiency to maximize an oral diet
